João Pedro
Transforming dreams into reality
Three years later, we are proud to see our first scholar completing school and embracing new challenges. João Pedro, known as JP, has left St. Paul’s and Brazil for Germany, where he has begun studying for a degree in Business Administration and Engineering at the University of Applied Sciences in Würzburg-Schweinfurt. Below are some of JP´s highlights.
#1 Start of the journey
2018 | December
One of the St. Paul’s Foundation’s partners, Ismart, sent us a list of potential scholarship candidates for our selection programme. One of the names was João Pedro’s, who attended ETEC Abdias do Nascimento school in Paraisópolis. JP was 15 years old at the time and was one of the most studious and intelligent candidates.
2019 | February
He passed the exams, joined the Preparation Course and became known as JP. He was one of the most engaging candidates.
#2 Scholarship offer
2019-2020 | August
At the end of the selection process JP was offered a scholarship and joined St Paul’s in Form 5.
2020 | December-January
JP settled in and did an English immersion course in England with the Foundation’s financial support.
“I received so much support from the Foundation. I could see that they were always looking out for me and making sure I was adapting well.”
#3 The IB Journey
2020-2021
JP began his IB course. This was a new challenge to which he had to adapt. He was also joined by new scholars.
“The IB is an international course that exposes you to different cultures and world views which is so important. The school really supported me and the Foundation stood by me the whole time. They were always thinking: ’how can we improve things for JP and the next generation of scholars?’ It was a joint effort.”
#4 The final year
2021-2022
With the end of online lessons, required because of the pandemic, JP was able to return to school. He won key matches as a member of the school basketball team, and he also joined the school Model United Nations team.
Graduation
In May, JP graduated from St. Paul´s. In September, JP left for Germany.
#5 About the experience
“Becoming a scholar changed my life and that of my family.”
