Embarking on the St. Paul’s Foundation Scholarship Programme is an opportunity for both educational advancement and personal development that endures beyond the program itself.
We asked two staff members who are heavily involved in the St. Paul’s Foundation Selection Process to share what they see as being part of the profile of a good candidate.
Mr Augusto Neto believes that candidates should focus on enhancing their academic breadth and English language proficiency. The preparatory classes by Cultura Inglesa and the Prep Course weekly session at St. Paul’s are key, but Ms Alison Ashman adds that also reading widely in English serves as a great way to help with comprehension and improve English fluency.
For Augusto, the key traits to go through the extensive Selection Process at St. Paul’s School are resilience, adaptability, and critical thinking. These qualities are crucial for navigating academic challenges and life’s hurdles. He also adds that engaging with the school’s community is a great opportunity to develop skills on collaboration and leadership.
As far as practical tips go, Alison adds:
- Research the school thoroughly through its website and think carefully about why you feel that this will be the best education for you.
- Think about what you want to do in the future and whether iGCSEs and the IB are the best route for you to follow.
- Consider your current strengths at school and be prepared to tell us about them. Think about the reasons why you are successful in these things, such as your commitment, determination, and effort.
Participating in the Fundação St. Paul’s Scholarship Programme provides one with a suite of lifelong skills and insights. With dedication and an open mind, candidates can forge a path not only to success in the programme but also to a fulfilling and prosperous future. Apply and enjoy the process!
