The St. Paul’s Foundation is currently running its fifth prep course for candidates looking to join St. Paul’s as Scholars in August 2023. From early February to late May 2023, all 20 candidates will attend three weekly lessons at St. Paul’s on many different subjects in English.
The first term of the prep course has just finished earlier this week, and now the group is taking a break before returning for the second part of the programme. Get to know more about how the first months of lessons have been straight from the source: read below a testimonial article from the two prep course volunteer teachers, Mr Augusto Neto and Ms Victoria Moreira.
“What great joy it has been to welcome 20 fantastic scholarship hopefuls and brilliant young minds to St. Pauls every week since the beginning of the academic year. It can safely be said that every new batch of applicants somehow manages to be even better than the previous one.
Thus far, Scholarship candidates have had sessions on what a British education looks and feels like and enjoyed lessons on a variety of subjects such as English Language and Literature, History, the Sciences, and Geography, as well as workshops on UK-Brazil connections, similarities, cultural differences and, above all, those things that make both countries and cultures unique, but at the same time bring us together. We have also explored vocabulary and curiosities surrounding the British Monarchy and dipped our toes into linguistic variations between English speaking countries. The UK History and Traditions Knowledge Fair organised by our candidates is by far one of the great moments of these four months.
However, the best part of working with them has been to witness their development as individuals and learn from the experiences that they chose to share with us.
It’s been a real pleasure to participate in their learning journey. To observe how much our candidates have developed not only in their confidence to participate actively in all engagements of the programme through the medium of the English language, but also their genuine desire to be positive agents of change and help fellow pre-scholars perform at their best has been a humbling experience, not to mention their impeccable manners and behaviour.
All 20 candidates have unquestionably demonstrated to share and live by St. Paul’s core values: Aspiration, Adventure, Inclusion, Responsibility, Kindness, and Resilience. We can say for sure they already behave as true Pauleans.”
