The selection process at St. Paul’s Foundation is a unique opportunity for students seeking an excellent education. However, there are some fundamental criteria for application and selection that all candidates must meet. In this post, we will detail each of these to help you better understand how the process works and what is required to participate.
Being regularly enrolled in a public or private school
One of the key requirements to participate in the selection process is that the student must be regularly enrolled in their current school, with good attendance and academic performance. The student must present documents that prove this, such as a report card with the full grades of the year.
Being between 11 and 14 years old
The selection process of the St. Paul’s Foundation is aimed at students between the ages of 11 and 14, meaning those entering or already in Lower Secondary School (Ensino Fundamental II). This age group allows us to better assess the student’s motivation and resilience, while at the same time, they can better understand the process and the opportunity. Additionally, from the age of 11, students typically have a more solid foundation in English, which helps them adapt to the school’s English-based curriculum. The final years at St. Paul’s focus on two diplomas: the IGCSE and the IB, which require complete preparation. For this reason, new scholars must enter in the years leading up to the start of these diplomas.
Having a good knowledge of the English language
While fluency in English is not required to participate in the process, it is very important the student has the confidence to communicate and understand the language. Since classes at St. Paul’s are taught in English, candidates must have a solid foundation to respond to the preparation provided, follow the content, and express themselves effectively.
The family’s gross income is not sufficient to cover the costs of St. Paul’s School
The St. Paul’s Foundation offers full scholarships that cover not only tuition fees but also uniforms, school supplies, extracurricular activities, and other expenses. To ensure that the scholarship goes to those who truly need it, candidates must prove that the family’s income is not enough to cover the full costs of attending St. Paul’s. Each case is individually assessed, taking into account the family’s financial situation.
Having a special talent in music, arts, theatre, or sports is an advantage (but not mandatory)
While the scholarship is not intended exclusively for students with talents in specific areas like music, arts, theatre, or sports, demonstrating skills in one of these fields can be a plus. However, this is not mandatory, and the most important factors are the student’s academic potential, motivation, and commitment to their studies.
Living in São Paulo or Greater São Paulo, within a distance of up to one and a half hours from St. Paul’s School
To ensure that the student can dedicate time to their studies in a semi-integral school, extracurricular activities, and still have time for their hobbies and family, it is necessary that they live within a reasonable distance from the school. This also ensures that the student can maintain a balanced routine and not spend excessive time commuting, which could hinder their development.
Having attitude, determination, and commitment to their studies
Participating in the selection process and later becoming a student at St. Paul’s is a challenge that requires a lot of dedication. The student will go through demanding curricula and an intense new routine, so commitment, determination, and resilience are essential qualities that will continue to be developed throughout their academic journey at St. Paul’s. The school supports students in socio-emotional matters, but we also view the selection process as an opportunity to assess not only academic performance but also the student’s attitude in the face of challenges.
