Donors of the St. Paul’s Foundation participated in an exclusive event at the Almeida & Dale Gallery. On 25th March, a guided tour of the Lygia Pape exhibition was led by art curator Laura Rego to highlight the importance of the arts in education and celebrated Women’s Month.
Art plays a fundamental role in the educational process and brings unique learning experiences to all. An event like this provides enriching experiences for our community and demonstrates how the artistic universe can be a great source of stimulation for creativity and inspiration in the pursuit of knowledge.
Florencia Azcune, an Old Paulean (class of 2011) and supporter of the Foundation, was one of the partners in organising this event and shared her experience. She highlights how the international education she received at St. Paul’s shaped not only her academic background but also her interest in arts, music, literature, and theatre – a repertoire that is now fundamental in her career as an Art Advisor. She emphasises that as a donor to the Foundation, she seeks to give back and ensure that more children have access to a global and transformative education like hers:
“The work of the St. Paul’s Foundation has been crucial in providing quality education to more children. Through the Scholarship Programme, the school has become a place of exchange and coexistence for students from different cultural and social backgrounds,” she states.
The visit to Lygia Pape’s solo exhibition with curator Laura Rego was a unique opportunity to discuss and emphasise the intrinsic link between art and education, something that aligns with the values of the St. Paul’s Foundation. Lygia Pape was an iconic figure in the Brazilian art scene, and in addition to her contribution as an artist, she also dedicated herself to teaching, demonstrating the transformative power of education through the arts.
The Foundation’s team thanks our partners for this opportunity and for the ongoing collaboration of all who support our mission of opening doors to excellence in education for young students.
