The application window for the August 2024 entry of the St. Paul’s Foundation scholarship programme is closing soon, on March 13th, 5 P.M. As we approach the final days of the application stage, we asked Mr Augusto Neto, a teacher at St. Paul’s and Scholarship Mentor, to share a few tips for those interested in applying.

We asked him what qualities are must-haves in those interested in registering and how they can improve their application and increase their chances of moving forward in the cohort.

1. How would you define a St. Paul’s scholar?

The scholarship pupil of any school but St. Paul’s School specifically is a very talented student, in fact, many different talents.

Candidates come to us with outstanding academic talent and good academic records. But there are also those who have a combination of excellent school performance with sporting talent and cultural talent, with musical or artistic skills. They are really multitalented students.

2. What characteristics are essential for any pupil who wishes to apply for a scholarship at an international school?

The most important thing is, for any type of application, to know as much as possible about your target. So, if you intend to apply for a scholarship at a school, it is important to have as much information as possible about the entire selection process at that school and also understand what the reality of that institution is like. You might, for example, discover that you are not a match for the school, or that school is not a match for you. You wouldn’t be happy in that environment, so why apply?

Finding as much information about the environment as possible before applying for an opportunity is always the best way to enter the selection process. For example, if the institution offers a scholarship to an international school whose language of instruction is English, you must speak English at the level required by the school. If you suddenly want to apply for a scholarship at a school where the language of instruction is French, you must speak French well enough to apply for that vacancy.

So, finding out as much as possible about the school and its reality is essential to know if, in fact, you are applying only for the possibility of winning a scholarship, which is obviously an interesting reason, or if you are actually applying because you see that school as a place you should be.

3. What advice would you give any student who wants to apply to the St. Paul’s Foundation Scholarship Programme?

Go to our website and read all the necessary information. There you will find everything you need. If you have questions, please contact us through the website. Come to the school, contact us, and talk to us about the selection process.

Also, look for social media. You can find St. Paul’s on different platforms, and there you will find information and maybe even have contact with students who are already scholarship holders.

Also, find out about the school, so you can decide to apply to our scholarship program with as much information as possible, which helps you find out if St. Paul’s is the place that will help you reach the goals you have for the future.
