During the last week of January, St. Paul’s pupils had the unique opportunity to participate in THIMUN, The Hague International Model United Nations, Conference in The Netherlands. Amongst the pupils, there were two of our scholars, Summer and Claudia, who shared more about their experiences.
The 57th THIMUN Conference was held from January 24th to February 1st, attracting over 3,200 students and teachers from around 200 schools across the globe. Our St. Paul’s delegation represented the state of Qatar and participated in various debates throughout the trip.
Model United Nations is one of the most popular enrichments offered at St. Paul’s, providing pupils a space for practicing diplomacy, while exploring more about international relations and global issues. Summer said that “not only was I able to pursue my passion of international relations in one of the global hubs of peace, diplomacy, and cooperation, but I had the privilege of meeting so many new people and visiting a country that I’ve always wanted to go to. I cannot express how grateful I am to the Foundation, the MUN team, and Ms. Lima, our advisor, for allowing me to have this wonderful opportunity”.
Claudia adds that the experience “was an incredible learning opportunity that allowed us to embrace a myriad of cultures and traditions, form new friendships, and create unforgettable memories”, highlighting the benefits of a truly international education.
About the Conference itself, both Summer and Claudia played key roles in the debates and developed their abilities such as critical thinking and teamwork. Summer, shared that, in the Sub-Commission she was a part of they “discussed the eradication of femicide and domestic violence, ensuring education for all, and how governments should support NGOs. I was able to make 3 speeches and ask countless questions from my fellow delegates (…) I felt nothing but pride during the closing ceremony, seeing my fellow delegate, Claudia, waving the flag of Qatar. I knew that my peers had given it their all, and we definitely made the most of the trip!”
The Model United Nations experience goes beyond purely the debates and negotiations, being a space for pupils to ignite their passions and strengthen their bonds with colleagues. At St. Paul’s, our MUN delegates are constantly challenging themselves. Next month, in March, they’ll participate in the nation-wide BRAMUN, the largest Brazilian Model United Nations Conference.

“If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that MUN is all about human connections and interactions, the factor that makes it truly special. I am immensely grateful to our MUN director, Ms. Lima, and Dr. Costa for their exceptional care and guidance throughout the trip. None of this would have been possible without their passion for MUN.
I believe I speak for the entire group when I say that this was a memorable experience that we will cherish forever. I am profoundly thankful to the Fundação St. Paul’s for their generous scholarship, which made this incredible journey possible. Your support has not only enabled me to grow academically and personally but also enriched my understanding and passion for global diplomacy.
This experience has had a transformative impact on my life, and I am committed to applying the insights and experiences gained to make a positive difference in my community and beyond. Thank you for believing in my potential, thank you for your unwavering support and thank you for the wonderful opportunity.”
