At St. Paul’s Senior School, we emphasise a set of essential habits known as “Lion Learning,” which are encouraged by teachers and staff members to help pupils develop skills for their academic and personal growth.  

These habits are key to fostering a positive learning environment and preparing young minds for future success, so the St. Paul’s Foundation build a Scholarship Programme that aims to nurture these set of skills in our candidates and scholars since the first moment they connect to the opportunities we offer. 

Meet below the four main habits that form the foundation of Lion Learning: 

I Take Ownership
This habit encourages pupils to find new ways of doing things and strive to meet their personal goals. It is about taking responsibility for their choices, learning from their mistakes, and being accountable for their actions. Pupils are also taught to look after school property and care for their surroundings, both inside and outside the school. 

I Collaborate
Collaboration is about developing friendships, initiating activities, and showing kindness to peers. Pupils are encouraged to resolve conflicts constructively, follow teachers’ instructions promptly, and contribute positively to group settings. This habit reinforces the importance of working together to achieve shared goals and enhance the learning experience for everyone. 

I Discover
Pupils are inspired to be curious and explore new ways of solving problems. This habit focuses on the desire to learn about the world by asking questions, conducting research, and making meaningful connections with new information. It promotes a mindset of curiosity and continuous learning. 

I Persevere
Perseverance teaches pupils to stay focused on tasks, even when they meet new challenges. It encourages them to change strategies when needed, ask peers for help before turning to teachers, and remain determined and resourceful during lessons. This habit helps build resilience and determination in the face of adversity.

Pupils are taking ownership of developing these habits by setting and reviewing targets, with the help of their tutor”, says Mr Sam Bishop, Assistant Head of Learning & Teaching. 

These habits underscore the teaching approach in the Senior School, meaning our scholars greatly benefit from them. By encouraging pupils to develop these attributes, they’re on their way to growing into well-rounded individuals who are prepared to tackle any challenges that come their way. 

At the Foundation, we also look for these qualities in our scholarship candidates. Throughout the Selection Process, our team closely examines applicants who already demonstrate these values and attitudes. This ensures that those who join us are well-aligned with our school’s culture and are ready to thrive in an environment that values ownership, collaboration, discovery, and perseverance.
